چکیده

Now that the classification of finite simple groups is complete, it is logical to look at the extension problem. An important special case to consider is when M is a minimal normal subgroup of G and both G/M and M are known groups. If M is abelian, various techniques have been used to derive information about G. Indeed, almost the entire theory of finite solvable groups can be said to rest upon these techniques. The motivation behind the present paper was to develop techniques for dealing with the situation when M is not abelian. Specifically, we consider the following problems: (1) Determine the structure of G from the structure of G/M and some subgroup or subgroups of G. (2) Find subgroups H in G such that G = HM, and, in particular, determine whether M has a complement in G. (3) Determine when two subgroups H, and H, found in (2) are conjugate in G. If M is a non-abelian minimal normal subgroup of a finite group G, then

non-divisibility for abelian groups

Throughout all groups are abelian. We say a group G is n-divisible if nG = G. If G has no non-zero n-divisible subgroups for all n>1 then we say that G is absolutely non-divisible. In the study of class C consisting   all absolutely non-divisible groups such as G, we come across the sub groups T_p(G) = the sum of all p-divisible subgroups and rad_p(G) = the intersection of all p^nG. The proper...

On Groups That Have Normal Forms Computable in Logspace Murray Elder, Gillian Elston, and Gretchen Ostheimer

We consider the class of finitely generated groups which have a normal form computable in logspace. We prove that the class of such groups is closed under passing to finite index subgroups, direct products, wreath products, and certain free products and infinite extensions, and includes the solvable Baumslag-Solitar groups, as well as non-residually finite (and hence nonlinear) examples. We def...

The influence of S-embedded subgroups on the structure of finite groups

Let H be a subgroup of a group G. H is said to be S-embedded in G if G has a normal T such that HT is an S-permutable subgroup of G and H ∩ T ≤ H sG, where H denotes the subgroup generated by all those subgroups of H which are S-permutable in G. In this paper, we investigate the influence of minimal S-embedded subgroups on the structure of finite groups. We determine the structure the finite grou...

On Semiabelian Groups

Recall that a group is called semiabelian if it is generated by its normal cyclic subgroups [6]. The class of semiabelian groups is a very natural generalization of the wellknown class of Dedekind groups (the groups in which all cyclic subgroups are normal). In the paper [6] Venzke showed that these groups could play a major role in the theory of supersoluble finite groups. Based on the notion ...
